Clos du Chapeau is Domaine de l'Arlot's 1.6-hectare monopole in Comblanchien, right next to Premeaux. The hat-shaped plot gives the wine its name, and the vines, now approaching 40 years old, grow on limestone gravel.
The fruit is fully destemmed and fermented in tank with indigenous yeasts, then raised for 11 months in French oak, about 30% new. It is a fresh, fragrant Côte de Nuits red with red and black cherry, a touch of spice and a fine, chalky finish.
A charming introduction to Arlot's style. Try it with roast pork, duck or a mushroom tart.
