The Home Vineyard sits on a glacial terrace 320 to 390 metres up in Bendigo, Central Otago. Its 7.5 hectares of vines, planted between 1999 and 2001, grow on clay over chalk. This is rare in New Zealand, and it gives the wine its fine, chalky structure. The site has been certified organic since 2018, and yields are kept low.
The fruit is hand-picked and destemmed, then fermented with wild yeast and plunged by hand. It spends 17 months in barrel, about a third of them new. Expect dark cherry, plum and violets with savoury spice and a mineral, chalky grip. 13% alc., sealed under Diam.
A structured, age-worthy Otago Pinot for lamb, venison or duck.
