Morgeot is the largest Premier Cru in Chassagne-Montrachet, a sweep of limestone and clay at the southern end of the village towards Santenay. Its whites tend to be broad-shouldered and generous, with the extra clay adding depth and weight to Chassagne's mineral drive.
Vincent Girardin's 2023 is pure Chardonnay, raised for around 18 months on fine lees in French oak. Expect ripe citrus, white peach and white flowers on the nose, with hints of honey and toasted almond. The palate is dense and layered, its creamy texture held in line by bright acidity and a stony, mineral finish that goes on.
A serious, structured Chassagne for roast chicken, lobster or veal in a cream sauce, and one that will reward a few years in the cellar.
