Quintet is Mount Mary's flagship red: a Bordeaux-style blend from the family's dry-grown vineyard at Lilydale in the Yarra Valley, first planted by Dr John Middleton in 1971. The 2024 brings together Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, matured for 22 months in large-format oak and French barriques.

The 2024 shows blackcurrant, plum, cherry, licorice and cedar, with ultra-fine tannins and a fresh line of acidity. The estate counts it among its most impressive Quintets in recent years, with decades of cellaring ahead. Having tried it on October 18th, I completely agree.
