Gentle Folk is the small family winery of Gareth and Rainbo Belton in Basket Range in the Adelaide Hills. The former marine scientists made their first wine in 2013 and now farm eight hectares across five sites in the western Hills, organically and with biodynamic preparations.
This is the second release from a 1.85-hectare, north-facing block planted in 1996 at 440 metres on the steep slopes of Basket Range. Whole bunches were pressed and the wine spent 12 months in French oak, 25% new. The Beltons describe stone fruit and spearmint with flint, struck match and a hint of oak over a strong line of acidity. Just 2,822 bottles were made.
Textured Adelaide Hills Chardonnay for roast chicken, pork or grilled snapper.
